The “Sweet Land of Liberty” under Barclay was heavily indebted to an authoritarian Firestone corporation and its finances tied to the falling price of rubber. That is, until Liberia became the last major supplier of latex to the allied war effort which prompted Roosevelt’s pandering visit. 

Firestone’s contract with Liberia should be a case study taught in all contract negotiation courses to emerging leaders….
